MBA After Civil Engineering: Here is how Praval achieved his MBA dream!

MBA after Civil Engineering

Name: Praval Priyaranjan

B-school: Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore

Are you an engineering student with MBA aspirations? If you wish to make this career transition then this blog on how Praval achieved his MBA after civil engineering will be of great help. Together, we will trace his MBA journey to understand his challenges, his drive and how he achieved success. Let’s begin, shall we?

Meet Praval; he is a Civil Engineer with over seven years of work experience in Engineering Consulting in the Public sector undertaking.

“I WANTED TO DO AN MBA TO GET THE RIGHT EXPOSURE OF THE TOP MANAGEMENT.”

Given his track record, Praval had the opportunity to work with the top management. In his interactions, Praval realized that he lacked a lot of skills that the upper management possessed. He knew that with an MBA, he would be able to learn these skills and reach a better position in his career.

When he started his MBA journey, Praval relied on his own research and his friends’ help. During this time, he got information about several MBA programs in India and abroad and began to notice a pattern.

He noticed that several MBA aspirants with a maximum of two years of work experience, would prefer a two-year MBA program. It is because these two years will help them understand the different facets of business and management and develop their technical knowledge.

“I HAD TO FIGURE OUT MY REQUIREMENTS FROM THE
B-SCHOOL.”

In his research, Praval realized that he would not decide upon a B-school unless he was sure about his requirement. Apart from his career, Praval also had to think about his family before deciding upon a MBA course and a B-school.

Being a married man meant a lot of responsibility and Praval realized that it would be impossible to travel abroad for his MBA program. Finally, he decided to focus on Indian business schools because it meant he could be closer to his family.

Now, Praval began to solely focus on his GMAT preparations.

“I HEAVILY RELIED ON MY RESEARCH DURING GMAT PREP”

Research and more research.

That was the mantra Praval lived by when he was prepping for his GMAT. He extensively checked different forums, websites, and other sources like OG guides to gather information and prepare for his GMAT.

Praval had initially thought of taking professional help for his GMAT preparations but since he had the luxury of time, he decided to prepare on his own. But he was certain that if he wanted to pursue an MBA after civil engineering, he would need to enlist a professional application service to help him deliver the best application essays.

“MY WIFE TOLD ME ABOUT CRACKVERBAL’S APPLICATION SERVICES AND I AM GLAD I LISTENED TO HER”

Right after his GMAT exam, Praval’s wife informed him about CrackVerbal’s application services. Praval then went ahead to check our website and services and was impressed by our track record. He knew the importance of submitting stellar application essays required by different B-schools to secure MBA admissions and he was willing to go the extra mile to crack it.

“I would say that my application journey was successful due to CrackVerbal.”

Praval thanked CrackVerbal for helping him with his application essays and also encouraging him to apply in Round 1 of Indian B-schools, based on his profile evaluation. For his essay preparation, Praval first jotted down all the stories he thought would be relevant for the B-schools and then worked with his mentor to structure them properly.

Speaking about the Round 1 of applications, Praval mentioned that he had to work extensively, almost five to six hours a day, as the deadline was just two weeks away. He also stated that different IIM colleges posed a challenge for him during the application process as different IIMs have different requirements. However, CrackVerbal helped him throughout his journey and helped him send winning applications for the B-schools he selected.

“I was happy that CrackVerbal helped me craft the best essays as it came in handy during my interview process.”

During the interview rounds, Praval found all the B-schools he applied to, focused on many aspects of his essays. He was thankful to CrackVerbal as we prompted him to write his essays with expert mentorship from our end. Since he could deep dive and research through his stories, Praval could face the interview rounds with much confidence.

His hard work finally paid off as Praval’s application essays for IIM Bangalore were considered for scholarships! Speaking about the scholarship, Praval mentioned that only the top 5 applicants in each round receive a scholarship of Rs. 6 lakhs.

“ASPIRANTS SHOULD FOCUS ON THEIR STRENGTHS AND HIGHLIGHT THEM IN THEIR ESSAYS”

Sharing his experience, Praval mentioned that aspirants need to know their strengths and focus them on their essays. He noted that if aspirants do not gauge themselves and understand how they can share their stories, their application may not stand out.

We hope Praval’s journey of pursuing an MBA after civil engineering has inspired you. We also hope that the information he shared about IIM Bangalore was insightful. In case you wish to know more about IIM Bangalore, check out this page.
