Which Schools Can You Realistically Target?
There is a meaningful difference between a school that accepts a score and one where that score is within the admitted range.
One important nuance: GMAT score is one evaluation dimension, not the whole picture. A strong application at a lower score can beat a weak application at a higher score at every school on this list. These bands tell you where your score is genuinely competitive as a starting point, not where your application will land.
| GMAT Focus Score Band | Competitive programs | What else matters most |
|---|---|---|
| 680+ | ISB PGP (strong position), IIM-A PGPX, IIM-B EPGP, IIM-C PGPEX | Essay narrative, goal clarity, interview — score is no longer the differentiator |
| 655–679 | ISB PGP (competitive), IIM-A/B/C exec programs, IIM-L IPMX, FMS Delhi exec | Strong work experience, differentiated essays, excellent recommendations |
| 635–654 | ISB (with strong profile), XLRI BM/HRM, SP Jain PGPM, FMS Delhi, IIM Kozhikode EPGP | Compelling professional narrative; other profile elements need to compensate |
| 615–634 | XLRI GMP, Great Lakes PGPM, NMIMS MBA, IMT Ghaziabad, TAPMI, XIMB, BITSoM | Program-specific fit, strong SOP, relevant work experience in target industry |
| 595–614 | GIM Goa, IIM Tiruchirappalli PGPM, IIM Indore exec, IIFT, IMI Delhi, IIT DoMS programs | Academic record, recommendations, clarity of purpose; essays carry heavier weight |
| 580–594 | FLAME Pune, MYRA Mysore, SDM Mysore, Apeejay, GITAM, BITS Pilani, ISBF Delhi | Overall application quality; consider whether retake is viable given timeline |
If your score falls below your target band, the two paths are: retake with a focused improvement plan, or strengthen every other application element to compensate. Our GMAT scores for top business schools guide covers the international comparison. For ISB specifically, the detailed picture is in our GMAT score for ISB guide.
Top 5 Programs: What You Need to Know in 2026
Stats, deadlines, and what actually goes into an admission decision at each school.
Crackverbal’s GMAT online coaching is built around Indian program targets: ISB, IIM exec programs, XLRI, and the GMAT Focus Edition.
How to Use Your GMAT Score Across Indian and International Programs
A single strong GMAT score covers both Indian and international applications simultaneously.
ISB’s average GMAT Focus score of 675 is competitive for multiple US programs in the 650–680 range as well. A candidate scoring 660–675 on the Focus Edition has a realistic path to ISB, all major IIM executive programs, and a meaningful set of international programs.
For the ISB specifically, the full picture of how GMAT score interacts with the rest of your profile is covered in our GMAT score for ISB guide. The broader context of how GMAT matters in Indian MBA admissions relative to essays and experience is in our MBA admissions and GMAT guide.
GRE is now accepted as a genuine equal to GMAT at every program in this list. If you find the GMAT format does not suit your test-taking strengths after a diagnostic attempt, GRE may produce better results.
If you are targeting multiple programs, check the application deadlines carefully. IIM-A PGPX and IIM-K EPGP both have October 2025 deadlines — earlier than most programs on this list. Missing Round 1 can significantly reduce your admission chances at these schools, regardless of your score.
Still have questions?
A single strong GMAT Focus score covers ISB, all major IIM executive programs, and a meaningful set of international programs simultaneously. The score is necessary but not sufficient. The profile — your work experience, your story, your goals — determines whether you walk through the door the score opens.
