The GMAT is accepted by over 100 institutions in India, a number that has grown significantly as more programs adopted GRE and GMAT alongside CAT and XAT. For candidates who have already prepared for GMAT for international programs, or who prefer the GMAT format over CAT, this creates a meaningful set of domestic MBA and executive program options.
This guide covers the 50 most prominent Indian B-schools accepting GMAT scores, with updated GMAT Focus Edition averages, GRE equivalents, program details, fees, and application deadlines. For a broader overview of how GMAT scores compare across international programs, see our gmat scores for top business schools guide.

Which Indian B-Schools Can You Target at Your Score?
Where do you actually stand on the GMAT?
7 questions, 12 minutes, section-wise breakdown. Know your gaps before you study.
The filter above shows you which schools technically accept your score. This section tells you what is realistically competitive. There is a meaningful difference between a school that accepts a score and one where that score is within the admitted range. Use the bands below as your planning baseline, then verify with individual program pages before applying.
One important nuance: GMAT score is one evaluation dimension, not the whole picture. A strong application at a lower score can beat a weak application at a higher score at every school on this list. These bands tell you where your score is genuinely competitive as a starting point, not where your application will land.
| GMAT Focus Score Band | Competitive programs | What else matters most |
|---|---|---|
| 680+ | ISB PGP (strong position), IIM-A PGPX, IIM-B EPGP, IIM-C PGPEX | Essay narrative, goal clarity, interview; score is no longer the differentiator |
| 655-679 | ISB PGP (competitive), IIM-A/B/C exec programs, IIM-L IPMX, FMS Delhi exec | Strong work experience, differentiated essays, excellent recommendations |
| 635-654 | ISB (with strong profile), XLRI BM/HRM, SP Jain PGPM, FMS Delhi, IIM Kozhikode EPGP | Compelling professional narrative; other profile elements need to compensate |
| 615-634 | XLRI GMP, Great Lakes PGPM, NMIMS MBA, IMT Ghaziabad, TAPMI, XIMB, BITSoM | Program-specific fit, strong SOP, relevant work experience in target industry |
| 595-614 | GIM Goa, IIM Tiruchirappalli PGPM, IIM Indore exec, IIFT, IMI Delhi, VIT, IIT DoMS programs | Academic record, recommendations, clarity of purpose; essays carry heavier weight |
| 580-594 | FLAME Pune, MYRA Mysore, SDM Mysore, Apeejay, GITAM, BITS Pilani, ISBF Delhi | Overall application quality; consider whether retake is viable given timeline |
If your score falls below your target band, the two paths are: retake with a focused improvement plan, or strengthen every other application element to compensate. Our gmat scores for top business schools guide covers the international comparison. For ISB specifically, the detailed picture is in our gmat score for isb guide.

Targeting an Indian MBA program with your GMAT score?
Crackverbal’s best online gmat coaching is built around Indian program targets: ISB, IIM exec programs, XLRI, and the GMAT Focus Edition.
Explore GMAT CoachingHow to Use Your GMAT Score Across Indian and International Programs
One of the key advantages of preparing for the GMAT as an Indian applicant is that a single strong score covers both Indian and international program applications simultaneously. ISB’s average GMAT Focus score of 675 is competitive for multiple US programs in the 650-680 range as well. A candidate scoring 660-675 on the Focus Edition has a realistic path to ISB, all major IIM executive programs, and a meaningful set of international programs.
For the ISB specifically, the full picture of how GMAT score interacts with the rest of your profile is covered in our gmat score for isb guide. The broader context of how GMAT matters in Indian MBA admissions relative to essays and experience is in our mba admissions and gmat guide.
GRE is now accepted as a genuine equal to GMAT at every program in this list. If you find the GMAT format does not suit your test-taking strengths after a diagnostic attempt, GRE may produce better results. The decision framework is covered in our separate comparison guide.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which Indian B-schools accept GMAT scores?
Over 100 Indian institutions accept GMAT scores for their MBA and management programs. The most prominent are ISB (Hyderabad and Mohali), IIM executive programs (PGPX at IIM-A, EPGP at IIM-B, PGPEX at IIM-C, IPMX at IIM-L, EPGP at IIM-K), XLRI Jamshedpur, SP Jain Mumbai, FMS Delhi, NMIMS Mumbai, Great Lakes Chennai, TAPMI Manipal, XIMB Bhubaneshwar, IMT Ghaziabad, and BITSoM. Most of these programs also accept GRE. CAT is not accepted for most executive programs or for ISB PGP.
What GMAT Focus score is needed for ISB?
The ISB Class of 2026 average GMAT Focus score is approximately 675 (equivalent to roughly 710 on the classic scale). ISB does not publish a cutoff; candidates below this average are admitted regularly when the overall application is strong. A GMAT Focus score of 650+ is generally considered competitive, and scores above 680 are in the comfortable range. ISB also accepts GRE; the Class of 2026 average GRE is 327.
Is my older GMAT score still valid for Indian MBA programs?
The classic GMAT (200-800 scale) was retired in early 2024. All new test-takers use the GMAT Focus Edition (205-805 scale). If you took the classic GMAT before 2024, your score remains valid for 5 years and is accepted by all Indian programs. There is no new classic GMAT available; only GMAT Focus is offered.
Do IIM executive programs accept GMAT or only CAT?
IIM executive programs (PGPX at IIM-A, EPGP at IIM-B, PGPEX at IIM-C, IPMX at IIM-L, and similar programs at other IIMs) accept GMAT and GRE for their executive MBA programs. CAT is not used for these executive programs. The flagship two-year PGP programs at IIM-A, IIM-B, and IIM-C require CAT for Indian residents; GMAT and GRE do not substitute for CAT in those programs.
Is GRE accepted as an alternative to GMAT at Indian B-schools?
Yes. All major Indian programs that accept GMAT also accept GRE with no stated preference between them. ISB accepts both and reports separate GRE and GMAT class averages. IIM executive programs, XLRI, SP Jain, FMS Delhi, NMIMS, Great Lakes, and most other programs on this list accept GRE equally. Candidates who find the GRE format better suited to their strengths should not hesitate to submit GRE scores.
